Apr. 28th, 2011 01:09 pmCouncilor: Thomas
Bill: Repeal the Uniform Mandate
Bill Stage: Open to Voting on 5/4/11
Bill Proposal:
As some of you may know, we had passed a uniform bill almost a year ago. While a contest had been held to select the design, all designs had been rejected by the Council for various valid reasons, and thus it had laid dormat.
Recently, Senior Councilor Sheila had attempted to recreate a "Fan Service" outline of uniforms. While I respect her initiative, the design had an overwhelmingly negative response from the whole of 0134. As that we have again fail to find a design that is suitable for work, and finding that many of our Agents and Enforcers are against the idea of an uniform and find it demoralizing...
I propose that the original mandate to be repealed, and the funds that were held up in the Bill's code to be freed up to whichever department is in the most need of Platinum.

Date: 2011-04-28 08:18 pm (UTC)However, you are correct that no design has yet proven adequate to our needs.

Date: 2011-04-28 08:28 pm (UTC)But Uniforms is just unpopular, not to imagine, trying to find one that works for Humans, Dragons, Youkai, Ducks, and Insectoids is going to be insane.

Date: 2011-04-28 09:00 pm (UTC)Now, that is just foolish. Here we are, after having struggled for a uniform mandate, we're working to undo it after a series of lackluster, mediocre designs.
The problem isn't with the bill itself, but rather, the designs and the designers. How can we simply give up without having tested the bill first? Not to mention, it would be nice to show a bit of uniformity during multi-worldly events or the like. You know, for professionalism's sake.

Date: 2011-04-28 09:21 pm (UTC)[Taking a notepad out from his pocket, Papierwaite quickly jotted down a few words.
Vote Yes > Against Uniforms
Vote No > Pro-Uniforms ]
I believe that should help you with the decision-making process, Councilor.

Date: 2011-04-28 09:32 pm (UTC)Take Papierwaite, for example. He wears nothing but that bathrobe of his everywhere. It's utterly indecent.
Sir, as I have told you before, this is not a bathrobe, it is a suit! ... but I had it tailored to be very soft like one...
Utterly indecent.

Date: 2011-04-30 12:33 am (UTC)The only modifications that I would ask for is that councilors or whoever is in charge of managing the bill to put some care into their work, I mean, really!
And tell me the truth. If you were an ambassador from a different world, would you want to see Papierwaite wearing his usual bathrobe?
Dr. Norrington, please! This is not a bathrobe!

Date: 2011-05-10 05:29 am (UTC)"Many of the jobs the Agents and Enforcers have to do involve blending in. Official uniforms would be pointless there because they'd stick out in their everyday patrols and duties, and ultimately those things would be relegated to dress uniforms for special occasions, IF that.
"And anyway, who here wants to have to wear the designs of of ONE person, who lived in ONE world and used that worlds' dress sensibility? It would be like everyone in this council chamber having to wear the robes of the Twilight Court. The bill in all its previous incarnations is convoluted, pointless and allows no real avenue for creativity even on the part of the designers."
